For three consecutive years, while living in Beirut, the artist communicates with her parents in Al-Yarmouk camp in Damascus almost exclusively through WhatsApp. A voice note from her father. An Oum Kulthoum song. Places begin to collapse into one another: the damaged buildings still bearing the marks of the civil war, the sea and the stone, waking and dreaming, Beirut and Yarmouk, memory and the present.

Through the fragments of voices exchanged across distance, the roles of parent and child begin to shift. Her parents retreat into memories of an earlier life, while the artist questions herself: What do my parents look like now?

A person with long hair is looking into a dark, shadowy, narrow passage or alleyway with stone or concrete walls and a bright opening at the other end.
